BMW’s GS-based sport-touring bike is back
Here in the Philippines, BMW’s boxer engine has always been associated with the GS/GSA series of adventure bikes. But, did you know that BMW has always made a sport-touring bike with a boxer engine?

In 1973, BMW Motorrad introduced the R90S model, which is considered by many as the brand’s first-ever sportbike, which also doubles as a touring motorcycle for enthusiasts. The R90S features an 898cc boxer engine and is able to achieve up to 200 kilometers per hour – at the time considered one of the fastest motorcycles ever made.
Then in 1993, BMW introduced the R1100 RS, which is a fully-faired sport touring motorcycle based on the GS. For 2023, the “RS” badge is making a comeback with the R 1250 RS.
BMW Motorrad’s abbreviation RS has always been synonymous in the world of sport touring with sporty, dynamic riding pleasure on country roads and at the same time superior comfort on extended tours. The BMW RS has always been a master of sporty riding, leaning into bends and long-distance stages for two and with holiday luggage.
Like the R 1250 GS/GSA adventure bike, the R 1250 RS enjoys the 1,254cc BMW boxer twin that generates 138 PS of power. Thanks to BMW’s ShiftCam technology for varying valve timing and valve lift on the intake side, it delivers beefy power across the entire speed range, extremely smooth and quiet running, and outstanding fuel consumption and emission values.
Like the R R 1250 GS/GSA adventure bike, the R 1250 RS is also packed with electronic riding aids to make riding more enjoyable in all riding conditions. Additionally, the R 1250 RS is equipped with BMW’s Dynamic Traction Control, engine drag control, ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Control, a large TFT screen, a standard USB socket, and many more.
Availability
The BMW R 1250 RS will be available in BMW Racing livery and Triple Black. BMW Motorrad Philippines is yet to announce the pricing and local availability of the R 1250 RS.
