A report suggesting that TVS and its European partner (BMW Motorrad) are co-developing a new 650cc-750cc platform. While the details are scarce, this is a very logical and a potentially beneficial move for both brands.
The 650cc motorcycle segment is a popular one, and lately, many brands are stepping into this segment. While Aprilia dipped its toes in the 650cc class with the Tuono 660, RS 660 and the Tuareg 660, even Royal Enfield too has three products and more incoming.
Meanwhile, BMW Motorrad has a void between its G 310 trio (G 310 R, G 310 GS, G 310 RR) and the F 750 GS which could be filled by the new platform. Considering the Apache RR 310 is the flagship model of the Hosur-based bikemaker, a leap into the 650cc-750cc segment would make things interesting in our market.
BMW is likely to introduce a naked and an ADV to add to its ‘R’ and ‘GS’ line of motorcycles while TVS could go with a faired motorcycle which is more in-sync with the company’s motorsport lineage.
Pricing would be essential in determining the success of these products. To make it big in our competitive market, TVS and BMW would have to start manufacturing the bikes in India. While this seems like an interesting development, it won’t be before late-2025 that we could see the bike make its first public appearance.
