More than a decade ago, Karl Kustoms from Des Moines, Iowa introduced their modern take on the iconic split-window Corvette that’s based on the C6 platform. Today, one of those cars is available for auction via Bring A Trailer.
This particular car was built using a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport that was equipped with the 3LT option package. Karl Kustoms modified the exterior of the car to replicate the split-window Corvette Sting Ray that was introduced in 1963. the car wears Velocity Yellow paintwork over a black center stripe and rides on C6 Z06-style wheels.
Aside from the exterior makeover, the stock LS3 6.2 litre V8 engine that originally produced 430 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque was upgraded with an Edelbrock E-Force supercharger and now punches out around 600 horsepower which is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Although the exterior was significantly changed, the cabin was pretty much untouched and still retains the C6 Corvette interior with some yellow trim to match the exterior. Since the car came with the 3LT package, it sports a Bose seven-speaker sound system, a head-up display, keyless access, navigation, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, Z06-branded floormats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror equipped with a compass.
Even after a decade, the car has traveled 1968 miles so far. It is now offered in Utah by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Carfax report, manufacturer’s literature, and clean Nevada title.
Only 250 conversions were done by Karl Kustoms which indicates that this is rare find.
